A new study suggests that males taking lots of medications to treat different health conditions have greater chance of ED development.
The more medications a male has to take, the more likely he will have moderate or severe impotence. The researchers conducting the study took into account underlying health problems which can cause ED in men of different ages and came to the conclusion, that beside the negative influence of certain disorders, the effects of multiple medications may lead to impotence in men.
The mechanism of how using multiple medications may increase risk for moderate or severe ED is not clearly perceived. But the results of the study give the reasons to think that getting rid of nonessential medications may be the first step on the way of ED treatment in some patients.
If a man has difficulty with erectile function he should take into consideration avoiding the medications that he doesn’t really need. And then a man should discuss with a doctor possible side effects of any prescription drugs.
The researchers studied the data concerning medication use among 37,712 men aged 45 to 70 years and found out that about 30% of those men had moderate to severe ED. The study demonstrated that the more drugs the participants consumed, the more likely they were to have moderate or severe ED.
Other major risk factors for impotence included aging, higher body mass index, diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol, depression, over consuming of alcohol and tobacco smoking.
