During clinical studies Viagra effects on blood pressure were evaluated in healthy volunteers for whom Viagra was administered in the dose of 100 mg per day. There were certain decreases in sitting blood pressure most notable 1-2 hours after oral administration of the drug. Mean max drop in systolic/diastolic blood pressure was fixed of 8.3/5.3 mm Hg. In comparison to placebo the insignificant blood pressure decrease was noticed after 8 hours of dosing. Volunteers were then administered 25 and 50 mg of Viagra and similar lowering effects on blood pressure were noted. It was suggested that these effects on blood pressure were not linked to dose or plasma levels within the dosage range used in the studies.

Larger and significant effects on blood pressure were fixed in patients receiving nitrates. So the concomitant usage of Sildenafil with nitrates is contraindicated. Viagra should not be administered for patients taking any nitrate containing medications or any medications which can potentially lower blood pressure.
